Bitcoin Fact No.2 Approximately 4 M Bitcoins have already been lost, could be 5 million by now
According to research by Blockchain analysis company, Chainalysis (which Luno works with), as of the end of 2017, almost 4 million Bitcoin could be considered lost. Since then it is a safe guess that the number might have reached 5 million. This is almost 30% of the total Bitcoin circulating supply of 17 million.
Ways by which Bitcoin can get lost
• Lost or discarded devices
• Forgetting about it
• Sending to a wrong address
• Forgotten private keys and passwords
